It’s your typical high protein, low carb and low sugar protein bar. A great way to get your protein intake for the day while keeping up with a healthy diet.
The Peanut Butter Supreme lists 210 calories, which is a bit higher than your average Quest bar, but still low when compared to other protein and nutritional bars. Perhaps it was because this was one of the two original flavors (other one being Vanilla Almond) Quest released when they became famous.
A simple and short list of ingredients is usually a good indication of a healthy snack. This bar is a bit too salty as it has a high amount of sodium, a common feature in the first Quest bar flavors. Quest has learned their lesson since, and has reduced (in most flavors) their sodium levels.
It’s flavored with sucralose, but probably won’t be enough to upset your stomach. It also has Lo Han Guo, an Asian fruit that gives a tiny bit of taste to the bar.
There are no sugar alcohols present.
For peanut butter fans this will be super flavorful and tasty, packed with real nutrition and low carb to boot. It’s a nice change from all the chocolate bars. It doesn’t have a strong peanut butter flavor, but you sense it is there, along with a mild toffee scent.
It has a nice smell and refreshing taste. Unlike some other protein bars that are too sweet, this one is just right. You fell you’re having a good and healthy snack as the bar is flavorful but not overly sweet.
It can be a bit chewy and sticky. It’ll probably hurt your front teeth just trying to get that first chunk off. It’s not awful to chew through it, just don’t do it in a hurry, heh. Microwaving helps with making it softer, giving it a rich texture and it surprisingly enhances the peanut butter flavor a little bit more.
The bar doesn’t have one of those awful chalky after-taste that you get in other bars, usually those with lots of sugar alcohols or funny ingredients. It’s filling, yet doesn’t weigh heavy on your stomach, so you can take it pre-workout, post workout or simply throughout the day.
Overall rating: 8/10
If you’re a sweeth tooth and expecting something tasty like Combat Crunch bars, Grenade’s Carb Killa or MuscleMed’s Carnivor Bar, you might be a bit disappointed. Although these are fine for my taste buds, if you’re a sweety-fanatic, you better look elsewhere.
However if you love peanut butter, and especially if you’re a little sick of all the chocolatey flavors out there, this will be a great choice for you. There is a bunch of Quest Nutrition flavors, but I find the Peanut Butter Supreme, one of the first two (along with Vanilla Almond) bars Quest released, a very underrated bar. Apart from being a bit salty, I recommend you pick this sometimes forgotten gem, as you’ll find it filling and pleasurable.
