Combat Crunch Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
(see all flavours here)
Muscle Pharm launched their own version of lower carb and high fibre in competition with Quest bars… with their multi-layer baked Combat Crunch Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough protein bar, coated in a chocolate and crunchy outher shell. Packing 20g of protein in 210 calories, 12g of fibre, low in sugar, gluten free and active carbs in a soft baked texture, Muscle Pharm gives us a great tasting alternative and addition to the low-carb protein bar crowd.
It’s hard to believe that such a candy-like bar only has 210 calories, with 20g of protein and 12g of fiber, making it a lower carb bar, competing with the likes of Quest bars and Oh Yeah low carb.
A glance at the ingredients tells you it isn’t like the “clean” protein bars like Quest, but it has a great nutritional profile, a soft, yummy texture with the chocolate coating that distinguishes it from the rest and gives it its signature. The bar is a bit high on sodium though.
The “crunch” in the outer shell is made of embedded cookie pieces. When you take a bite in its crunchy chocolate shell and reach the taffy-soft cookie centre, melting in your mouth, you begin to understand how the combination is great. The soft-baked nature of the bar means that you won’t have a jaw workout each time you chew one.
Overall rating: 8/10
Good taste, great macros, good ingredient profiles. The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough isn’t my favourite from the Combat Crunch line (I liked the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup more, the Stack3d guys liked it less), but it’s a good treat. My impression is that these bars aren’t quite in the “clean” department, but it isn’t a cheat bar either, as the nutritional profile is good in the taste-macro relationship. Just because it tastes like a cheat, doesn’t mean it is a cheat.
